What are Air Source Heat Pumps and how do they work?

Air source Heat Pumps are electrical devices which convert energy from the air outside of your home into useful heat, in the same way a fridge extracts heat from its inside. Consisting of four major elements that allow the refrigerant to pass from the liquid state to the gas: a compressor, a condenser, an expansion valve and an evaporator.

In well insulated houses they are very economical to run. They are extremely efficient both in winter and summer thanks to the outstanding SCOP (seasonal coefficient of performance) Different types of heat pump systems draw heat from different sources, air, water or the ground. Heat generated is released via radiators, underfloor heating or warm air. All heat pump systems will supply all hot water needs. Heat pumps are the most efficient alternative to fuel, oil and electric systems meaning they are better for the environment. Their efficiency means reduced energy bills and decreased carbon footprint for your household.
